From struggling to barely make it by to inspiring millions of people every day, Kristen Butler has had a life changing last decade. If you had met her a decade and a half ago, you would have found her at rock bottom suffering from severe anxiety, panic attacks, depression and much more. She decided that she needed to take matters into her own hands and attempt to change her life for the better.
“Rock bottom is somewhere I never expected to be, but it happened. I didn’t have the tools necessary to prevent or stop the downward spiral. The more I talked to people, the more I realized it happens to a lot of us in our own way. It’s a place that, if we allow it, can destroy us. On the other hand, I also believe it can teach us about the deepest, darkest parts of ourselves for our ultimate growth. Rock bottom can be our greatest teacher – as long as we don’t stay there for too long,” Kristen recounts.
Now, Kristen is an entrepreneur, founding the popular worldwide Power of Positivity community that is more than 50 million strong on Social Media. Power of Positivity is a Lifestyle brand, digital media creator, and has become an inspiration to others to lead a better lifestyle! Most recently, she has also become a best selling author of her book “3 Minute Positivity Journal: Boost Your Mood, Train Your Mind, Change Your Life”. With over 50,000 copies sold, she is giving back what she learned through the many years of her mental health struggles to inspire others to turn their lives around and become their best self.
“I want my community to know that no matter what your past is filled with, better days can happen. Your dreams are not dead. You can have whatever your heart desires. I want my community to know that life can still be good, even amidst challenges. Gratitude IS life changing. The basis of the content we post on PoP is a culmination of over a decade of research, learning, observation, exploration, and experimentation both in my own life and in the lives of those around me. We love sharing our favorite inspirational people as well,” Kristen explains.
What has helped Kristen throughout this whole process, both personally and professionally, has been her incredible mindset. Like with many other entrepreneurs, Kristen’s ability to put forward a powerful and positive mindset empowers her to achieve big things and even overcome her own roadblocks.
“Mindset is everything. You have to visualize where you’re going, act like you’re already there, and operate happily from where you are (no matter where that may be). It may look bleak in the beginning, like things will never progress, but you have to have faith and a positive mindset, along with a firm belief in yourself to create your vision and thrive,” Kristen says.
Truly practicing what she preaches, Kristen doesn’t see her fellow co-creators as competition at all. Instead, she thinks that the community can uplift itself together by using the compelling power of other content creators in addition to the good natured content that Kristen herself has put out into the world.
“I don’t see others as competition. In fact, I call others in my community that are succeeding “compellers”. They compel me to continue working on my dream. They inspire and show me what can also be possible for me. Together we are all just collaborators on a much greater mission than ourselves or our own goals. It’s our job to work together to get there in whatever capacity we can and if we can’t work together at least we can cheer for each other. One person’s success can never dim others, this is a misconception and a limiting belief that holds many people back,” Kristen details.
The community that Kristen has created through her work is constantly growing. In addition to the magnitude of the journal’s success, Kristen received countless messages every day from many people talking about how her work has changed their lives for the better. She describes it as a beautiful exchange of energy between herself and her community.
“I grew the community with no marketing, no startup capital, just a little $5,000 credit card that we used to buy the trademark and invest in the website. We were the team for several years. In fact, we were of service to our community for 5 years before we ever started making any money. That was not our goal. It was just to spread inspiration. When we did start making a little revenue from the content we created, we slowly transitioned from working with web design and social media clients to working full time. Then, over time we were able to hire a team member and additional writers to begin making a bigger impact,” Kristen describes.
